This shot marks the conclusion of the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse. The moment captured here is known as Baily's Beads, when the reemerging sunlight begins to shine through the valleys of the lunar surface. It is visible only for a fleeting few seconds before the Earthly crowd below is collectively bathed, once again, in our familiar daytime starlight!
This image is one of hundreds I captured on the day, but it struck me as such a beautiful depiction of the phenomenon. The promenade of prominences was also striking and the largest one was even visible to the unaided eye.
Totality is a marvel that should be witnessed by all. I hope you enjoy my share of the view!
